On my way from Lake Mead to Parker, AZ I made a stop in Chloride to see junk yard art, then in Kingman for the Arizona Route 66 and Electric Vehicle Museum, and at Lewis Kingman Park for some food truck BBQ.
Chloride was once a busy mining town, now known for its "yard art". Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so if this isn't your thing proceed to another topic below!

Next stop, Kingman! These photos are from the Electric Vehicle Museum, downstairs from the Arizona Route 66 Museum. Captions provide details about some of the exhibits.
As I was leaving the museum I saw a flyer posted for a community event in support of the local food bank. It was taking place at that very time in Kingman Park, featuring live music and an assortment of food trucks. I had been wanting to try BBQ in various places on my trip, and I got an excellent BBQ brisket sandwich with mac & cheese and tater tots on the side!
What great timing for the community events and food trucks. It will be interesting to sample different region's BBQ along the way.
ReplyDeleteHi Ken. Enjoying your trip photos. We have been to Kingman, Arizona way back in 1983. One of the things I remember is that it was the home of Andy Devine who as Jingles P. Jones, was the sidekick of Wild Bill Hickok. In one of the shops in town, they had Andy's saddle displayed. Was it still there, some 40 years later?
ReplyDeleteI've heard the story about that saddle, but I didn't stick around enough to find out if it's still on display! My guess is YES because it seems that little has changed in Kingman and any memorabilia is probably intact.
DeleteHi Ken, Chloride looks like a funny town! Some of the buildings have a lot of character and I love the yard art! The Electric Vehicle Museum looks interesting too. Glad you found out about the community event and were able to have some good BBQ! It looks like it was a great day for that and there was a good turnout. It's great to see the various sites during your travels.
