I drove Highway 285 from Carlsbad, NM to Fort Stockton, TX. There were gas & oil fields along most of the route without much notable scenery. There was quite a bit of road construction as well, but traffic was light so that didn't become an issue.
I stopped at Fort Stockton for some shopping and lunch before pausing overnight. Here I am with the giant roadrunner, one of the local sights!
I sampled some local BBQ at B's Family Dining, choosing the lunch special combo of BBQ brisket, chicken, sausage, potato salad, beans with jalapeños, and a freshly made apple cobbler. It was great, and it was a lot of food!
Here I am set up for the night at a Pecos County rest area on Interstate 10 West, mile marker 233. There are nice shade structures, landscaping, and a building with great bathrooms.
Night at the rest stop, big rig spots are filled up.
Your rig looks so small compared to all the 18 wheelers.
